A spokesperson for Wiener Linien stated that the driver was no longer employed due to breaching the strict alcohol ban enforced for tram operators. The police have launched an investigation into the fall, with the driver facing potential charges of negligent bodily harm in traffic. An official report has also been filed regarding his alcohol intoxication. Wiener Linien emphasised that random, unannounced alcohol tests are regularly carried out to ensure adherence to their alcohol policy.
